Profile:
Alok Bal wanted to become a footballer, yet injuries gave him a better option to be an artist. He spent his childhood amidst nature – hills, lush green and stream, at Rourkela, Orissa. He came to Baroda to learnt painting from Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University after he completed his B.Com from Sambhalpur University of Orissa. He is the eye witness of the changing landscape and skyline of Baroda, make it a polluted city.
He is influenced by the pop artists of Britain and their American counterparts. His works represents the conflict between the nature and the urbanization. He uses the figures and the colour metaphorically which represent the psychological aspect of human life and self. His childhood memories of lush green, stream and hills remind him the encroachment of nature by the development and urbanization. The hush realities of metro cities inspire him to paint. The disillusion of urban life of metropolises is represented by the serene colours, pity and fancy figures.
