Pratick Mallick is a contemporary Indian painter and draughtsman based in Kolkata. He completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, in 2011. Since then, he has developed an independent studio practice centred on drawing, figuration, portraiture, and experimentation across multiple media. bio Pratick june.
Mallick’s practice is grounded in a strong command of charcoal, conté, ink, watercolour, and painting. His works often focus on the human figure, using gesture, anatomy, tonal contrast, and expressive line to explore psychological presence and emotional states. Rather than treating the figure as a purely descriptive subject, he uses it as a vehicle for introspection, tension, and symbolic interpretation.
He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Kolkata and other Indian cities. His works have been shown at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and galleries in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow. He also participated in an artist residency at Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan, in 2024, and in an exhibition organised by the Art Society of India at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2025.
Mallick’s solo exhibition history includes presentations at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (2020), Eye Within Gallery (2021), and T-93 Art Gallery (2022). In 2024, his project The Resonance of Kalki was presented successively at the Bridging Culture and Art Foundation, the Academy of Fine Arts, and Cave 31 Art Gallery. His work was also exhibited at Taj Bengal, Kolkata, in the same year.
His early achievements include the Zainul Abedin Award and the Sir J. K. Mukherjee Memorial Award, both received in 2011. Works by the artist are part of the Arts Acre Museum collection, including charcoal, conté, and ink works.
Pratick Mallick’s practice reflects a sustained commitment to drawing and contemporary figuration. Through disciplined observation and material experimentation, he continues to explore the expressive possibilities of the human form within the evolving context of contemporary Indian art.
