M F Hussain gives the best impression of the Indian Art Market scene as perceived internationally. The master painter, who has for some time now been living abroad, due to various controversies involving his works back home has suffered the effects of the downturn in the global art market, with his price index chipping at -10% on the 2008-09 scale. However, on a ten year scale, a 100 EUR invested on Hussain had an average value of 844 EUR in August 2009, his best years being 2001 (+77%), and then a continuous upward curve for four years starting 2004 (+99%), 2005 (+65%), 2006 (+76%) and 2007 (+81%).
