Kolkata, 17 July 2026:
Aakriti Art Gallery today unveiled two significant initiatives that reflect the changing landscape of Indian art—Ask Aakriti, an AI-powered digital art advisory platform, first of its kind in India and Art Insights, a new biannual research journal dedicated to Indian art history, documentation and collecting.
The launch ceremony was conducted by Aman Bachhawat, a graduate of the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York, together with noted art collector Pradip Bothra and Chhatrapati Dutta Principal of the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata.
Among the distinguished guests present were eminent art historian and critics - Mrinal Ghosh, Nanak Ganguly, Prasanta Daw and Debdutta Gupta, along with leading artists, collectors, scholars, writers and members of Kolkata’s art fraternity.
Founded in 2005, Aakriti Art Gallery has consistently introduced initiatives that have expanded the reach of Indian art. The gallery pioneered the GenNext platform for emerging artists, introduced the acclaimed Masterpieces exhibition series, and over a decade ago became one of the first galleries in India to popularise the concept of an Affordable Art Mela, making original art more accessible to a wider audience.
Continuing that tradition of innovation, Ask Aakriti combines artificial intelligence with Aakriti’s two decades of curatorial experience and archival knowledge. The platform has been designed as a digital art advisor for collectors, students, researchers and enthusiasts, offering intelligent artwork recommendations, contextual search, artist information, collection guidance and access to knowledge relating to Indian Modern and Contemporary Art.
The second initiative, Art Insights, represents a new direction in art publishing. Rather than being authored by a single individual, the journal has been conceived, researched, documented and compiled collectively by the in-house research team of Aakriti Art Gallery. The publication focuses on overlooked artists, archival discoveries, collecting practices, provenance, documentation, market trends and lesser-known narratives from Indian art history. It seeks to encourage collaborative scholarship and establish a sustainable model for institutional research in the visual arts.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Bachhawat, Founder-Director of Aakriti Art Gallery, said:
“For more than twenty years, Aakriti has believed that a gallery should do much more than exhibit and sell art. It should preserve knowledge, encourage research, educate collectors and create meaningful conversations around Indian art. Ask Aakriti and Art Insights are natural extensions of that philosophy. One embraces the possibilities of artificial intelligence, while the other strengthens the culture of research and documentation. Together, they represent our commitment to making Indian art more accessible, better documented and more deeply understood.”
With these launches, Aakriti Art Gallery reinforces its position as one of India’s most forward-looking galleries, bringing together technology, scholarship and curatorial expertise to create a comprehensive knowledge ecosystem for Indian art.
