Epitomizing New Generation Art

Kolkata : Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata celebrates its annual exhibition 'GenNext' that has by now become the icon of endorsing young generation artists and has created a revolution in the art world. 'GenNext' is a global event which brings in young generation artists from every corner of the world to execute their creative endeavour on a common platform. It was five years back in the month of October when Aakriti Art Gallery was incepted and since then every year on the first day of this month, GenNext is celebrated. This year, it's the fifth anniversary of the GenNext. And thus GenNext V is reaching out to raise its curtain with another exuberant bunch of young creative talents and give a new boost to this entire discourse that communicates the saga of the generation to mark the path for tomorrow.

The idea of GenNext was conceived on the noble note to exclusively promote young artists below forty years of age with an evolution in the total concept of curatorial venture. GenNext, the role-model to showcase young potentials on a global platform has graphed a unanimous change in the whole approach of looking at art. Over the years, GenNext has grown step-by-step from regional to national and then to global milieu. An evolution was churned to create a new wave in the art world. As GenNext IV reached out to the art lovers as the most effervescent experience in the assortment of expressions with innovation, experimentation and freshness, GenNext V is going to be far more effervescent with lot more intriguing things happening in the art world.

This time around thousand entries from artists across the globe had been received and a panel of experts did the final selection to put the works of thirty-four young artists together, on this enthralling platform (Twenty seven artists from India and seven international artists.) The selected artists are Arindam Sarkar (Santiniketan), Annabel Scheneck (France), Buddhadev Mukherjee (Baroda), Chandra Nath Saha (Kolkata), Debasree Das (Baroda), Dino Bakić (Croatia), D. Dhasan (Chennai), Deepak Khetri (Baroda), H.G.Ganesh Urala (Karnataka), Kaite Helps (U.K), Kasa Vinay Kumar (Chennai), Krupa Makhija (Baroda), Laura Guoke (Lithuania), Mithun Dasgupta (Kolkata), Meenakshi Sengupta (Howrah), Mohon Kumar T (Bengaluru), Mrinal Dey (Santiniketan), Muktinath Mondal (Baroda), Nabanita Guha (Kolkata), Prabhakar Alok (Patna), Ramello Francesca (Italy), Ranjan Ghosh (Hooghly), Riya Chatterjee (Gujarat), Rupa Rani (Jharkhand), Sayed Naqvi (Pakistan), ShatrughanThakur (Baroda), Santosh D. Andrade (Mangalore), Sayak Mitra (Hooghly), Siraj Saxena (U.P), Shyama Prasad Bhattacharjee (Tripura), Soghra Khurasani (A.P), Vinita Dasgupta (New Delhi), Tisha Mandal (Kolkata) and Yu Zhaoyang (China).

GenNext V is going to be a medley of paintings, sculptures, prints, new media art and photographs. It will not be simply an exhibition but a total package of workshop, seminars and residency programs. From this year onward, KHOJ is also coming in collaboration with GenNext to give residencies to three young artists. This year Oli Ghosh from Mumbai, Sutanuka Giri and Piyali Sadhukhan of Kolkata, all from the previous GenNext shows will be interacting among themselves and will work on projects proposed by KHOJ for a month (September 6 October 4, 2010). Their works will be simultaneously showcased while the GenNext show is on in the month of October at Emami Chisel Arts, Kolkata. This initiative adds another feather of accomplishment to the GenNext success record. The GenNext V show will be open from October 2 to October 21, 2010 at the Aakriti Art Gallery to embellish another memorable creative journey of the new generation artists with more dynamism and prospects.
