Jamini Roy (1887- 1972) was one of the most prominent painters from Bengal who made some sparkling ventures into a Post-Impressionist genre of landscapes and portraits. He came out of the traditional art practice and adapted his own style in 1925 which was inspired by the Kalighat Pot Paintings and terracotta of Vishnupur temple. One of the heritage artists of India, Jamini Roy's works are sold at high prices at some of the major auction houses across the globe which include Musicians, sold at Bonham's London in 2007 for EUR 109,725, Untitled sold at Osian's, New Delhi in 2005 for EUR 44,653 and Mother and Child, sold at Christie's New York in 2006 for EUR 43,335.
