This is an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Western Artists from the 18th to the early 20th centuries.
The exhibition will show 93 works drawn from the V&A's collection by 33 Western artists depicting the architecture, landscape and people of India.
The exhibition will be displayed chronologically in four sections-
a picturesque tour of India will look at the work produced by the first European artists to visit India who painted scenes based on direct observation, paintings and drawings by amateur artists who did not make their living from their art, images of India painted by British artists in the 19th century and works by John Griffiths and John Lockwood Kipling.
