Bonhams Power by BMW auction

Nine 40 year old delivery mileage private collections of BMW Motor Cars were offered without reserve, at the BMW Museum in Munich, Germany. 42 lots were put for sale out of which 23 were sold for €13, 12,630. The highest price went to lot no. 175, 1969 BMW 'Spicup' Convertible Coupé. Coachwork by Carrozzeria Bertone. Chassis no. V.0010, Engine no. V.0010/2800. It fetched €460,000 (inclusive of buyer's premium). The next high price lot was lot no. 154 1939 BMW 327 Cabriolet Chassis no. 74023 Engine no. 74023. It was sold for €143,750 (inclusive of buyer's premium).
Sale of Indian and Islamic Art

Bonhams put on auction 441 lots of Islamic and Indian Art at Bonhams, New Bond Street. Out of the 441 lots 231 were sold for £16, 60,439. The highest priced lot was lot no. 147 which was sold for £184,850 (inclusive of buyer's premium). It is an important Iznik pottery Water Bottle (surahi), Turkey, circa 1575. The bulbous body rising through a recurved band to a tubular neck with torus moulding and flaring mouth, on short foot, the brilliant white ground of the body painted with red carnations and blue hyacinths, a band of plaited ribbon above, the upper neck with similar floral motifs, the lower neck with lobed panels with cusped ends and medial blue stripes, the moulding with split-palmette interlace, measuring 38.3cm high.
India and Beyond, Travel and Photography, Knightsbridge

550 rare Indian art, memorabilia were on sale at Bonham's on October 4. Out of 550 lots 473 lots were sold for £92, 01, 39. The first printed depiction of Taj Mahal, the 17th century mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, was among the highlights of the heritage art auction.
Highest lot was 465 with price £103,250. BURMA TRIPE (LINNAEUS) Views in Burma, 112 salt prints from wax paper negatives, mounted, most as issued with captions, printed numbers and Tripe's blindstamp, 11 on modern mounts, with the captions pasted below as in the originals, 11 mounts creased or with cracks repaired on verso, very occasionally reaching image, seven strengthened with archival tissue, one image without caption, images 255 x 340mm., 1857. Next lot was 474 with £55,250, HIROSHIMA Two albums, predominantly of Japan, compiled by a crew member of the Royal Navy victualling ships Fort Constantine and Fort Beauharnois.
The sale largely comprised an extensive collection of books, photographs and prints on India, put together privately over 25 years.

Phillips de Pury & Company will presented The New York Photographs Auction on October 4 in New York at Phillips de Pury 450 Park Avenue. Works by Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Robert Frank, Man Ray, Bernd & Hilla Becher, Robert Mapplethorpe, Garry Winogrand, Lee Friedlander, Larry Clark & others were included. 200 lots were put on sold out of which 165 lots were sold for $ 4,583,875 (including premium). The highest price went to lot 56, Richard Avedon The Beatles Portfolio: John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney, musicians, London, 1967. It was sold for $722,500 (price includes buyer's premium).
The Arc of Photography: A Private East Coast Collection

The Arc of Photography: A Private East Coast Collection was auctioned by Phillips de Pury & Company on October 4, 2011. Works by Nadar & Adrien Tournachon, Alfred Stieglitz, Man Ray, Bruce Nauman and others were put on sale. 271 lots were put on sale out of which 259 were sold for $ 2,345,375 (including buyer's premium).
The highest priced lot was lot 221 Nadar (Gaspard Félix) and Adrien Tournachon, Pierrot with Fruit, 1854-1855. It was sold for $542,500 (price includes buyer's premium).

635 lots were put on sale by Christie's Interiors London on October 4, 2011. Out of 635 lots 393 lots were sold for a total of £557,575. The highest price went to an Ottoman Ebony, Teak, Ivory, Bone and Mother-Of-Pearl Bijouterie Table, circa 1880. The hinged top centred by a glass panel, the compartment below with mirrored bottom and sides, 32 in. (81 cm.) high; 28½ in. (72.5 cm.) wide; 22½ in. (57 cm.) deep. The estimated price was £3,000 - £5,000, but it was sold for £15,000.

On October 4 and 5 Christie's Interiors, New York had put on sale 894 lots out of which 833 lots were sold for $ 2,153,937. The highest price went to lot no 104, Mark Tobey (American, 1890-1976) Untitled, signed and dated 'Tobey 1960' (lower right) gouache and crayon on paper 7 x 5 in. (17.8 x 12.7 cm.) executed in 1960. The estimated price was $2,000 - $3,000 while the price realized was $56,250 (price includes buyer's premium). The same price was realized for lot 265 a group of French glass perfume bottles, 1920-1940, various makers, approximately fifty-three bottles, most with glass stoppers, others with metal stoppers, most with original cases or packaging; together with a silver metal bottle and stopper (54). The estimated price was $2,000 - $3,000.

Christie's had put 445 works of art dating from the 7th Century to 20th Century from Europe in the west to South East Asia in the east, on auction on October 6, 2011. Out of 445 lots 233 were sold for a sale total of £6,373,775. The highest priced lot was lot no. 10, an Intact Late Sasanian or Early Islamic Cut-Glass Beaker, IRAN, circa 7th Century. The beaker of cylindrical form, tapering towards to the base, the surface cut with staggered rows of rectangular facets with pronounced upper and lower edges forming horizontal bands, circular facets around the base, intact, slight surface encrustation, 7 7/8in. (20.1cm.) high. Though the estimated price was £250,000 - £350,000, it was sold for £337,250 (price includes buyer's premium).

610 were put on sale by Christie's on October 7, 2011. Out of the 610 lots 316 were sold for a total of £1,267,275. The highest price went to lot no. 388, it a Panoramic View of the City of Lahore, Punjab, Circa 1840 AD, watercolour on paper, depicting the city from outside its walls, with a cavalcade of Sikh dignitaries in the foreground, the buildings with identification inscriptions in Persians, mounted, framed and glazed, 9½ x 92½in. (24 x 235cm.). Though its estimated price was £6,000 - £8,000, it was sold for £61,250 (price includes buyer's premium).

Autumn Online Auction of Fine Jewels & Watches, Saffronart, Mumbai

Saffronart concluded its annual Autumn Online Auction of Fine Jewels & Watches, on October 19, 2011. The auction registered a demand for a broad array of jewels including natural pearls, impressive coloured diamonds and gemstones, and limited edition men's watches.
The auction drew bidders from across the world, the top lots sold were a magnificent pair of diamond and black onyx ear pendant for Rs. 66, 01, 127 lakhs (USD 140, 450), each designed as a single bezel-set old-European cut diamond, weighing approximately 14.22 carats in total, the reverse covered with a black onyx dome, mounted in gold and silver. The next highl price went to an impressive five-strand natural pearl necklace which was sold for Rs. 54, 05, 000 lakhs (USD 115,000).

Pundole's held a public auction on 12th and 13th October in Mumbai. The property from the estate of the late Dr. Jamshed J. Bhabha was auctioned and majority of the lots was sold higher than reserved prices. The auction was under various heads such as Silver, Miscellaneous, and Ceramics, Glassware, Writing Instruments, Coins, Watches, Jewellery, Lights, Furniture, Carpets / Rugs, Textiles and Paintings. In most of the lots that were up for the auction found a fair number of bidders each trying to outdo the others. The condition of the lots that were put up for auction was not clearly spelt out by the auction house as some glassware, ceramic were chipped or cracked, which made it essential for intending buyers to view each lot. The highest price paid was lot no. 915, an untitled oil on canvas by V S Gaitonde which sold for 4 crore 40 lakhs followed by lot no. 916 an untitled oil on canvas by Tyeb Mehta which realized 3 crore 50 lakhs.

Christie's will offer Property from the Collection of Lew and Edie Wasserman as part of its major fall sales in New York City. Assembled largely in the 1950s and 60s by the “king and queen of Hollywood,” the collection includes several seldom-seen works by important artists such as Degas, Matisse, Vuillard and Soutine that have adorned the couple's Beverly Hills home for decades. The total value of the collection is expected to exceed $18 million. The highest price is expected to be Chaim Soutine's Le valet de chamber, which is estimated to be $4,000,000-6,000,000.

Christie's will present the London sale of Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, to date, on November 8, 2011. 411 lots will be put up for auction including seven important private collections: Property from an Important Asian Collection; Property from a Distinguished Asian Collector; Important Rhinoceros Horn and Jade Carvings from a Distinguished European Collection; The Farrow Collection; A Magnificent Selection of Chinese Works of Art from the Sir Framjee Dinshaw Petit, 3rd Baronet & Lady Sylla Dinshaw Petit, Neé Tata Collection; The Burton Collection of Chinese Works of Art and Property from a South American Collection. With estimates ranging from £1,000 to £500,000 the sale is expected to realise in excess of £15million.
The highest lot is expected to be lot no. 375, a rare blue and white cylindrical vase, yongzheng six-character mark and of the period (1723-1735). The high-shouldered body painted in the Ming-style with an allover design of a foliate meander with large exotic blossoms borne on four leafy, penciled stems, below a narrow band of classic scroll encircling the neck, all within double line borders, 10 in. (25.4 cm.) high £500,000 - £700,000.

Out of 330 lots the highest priced is expected to be lot no. 97, which is, a large bronze figure of a girl, made in the victorian style, during circa 1970's. It is standing on naturalistic base with one hand raised 65½ in. (167 cm.) in the air.

Christie's will present its Hong Kong Autumn sale of Magnificent Jewels on November 29 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Leading the sale is a pair of unmounted round brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing 35.77 and 35.61 carats each, and graded 'D Flawless' the highest accolade for colour and clarity. Considered individually, these gems are a marvellous legacy of nature and exceedingly rare for their superb quality, and tremendous size; offered as a matching pair, they radiate a beautiful symmetry that makes them even more perfect together. The estimated price for each is HK$56,000,000 – 75,000,000.

Lot no. 138 is also of the same estimated price of £7,000.00 - 9,000. It is a portrait of a lady seated in an interior with a cat, a vase of flowers on a window ledge behind her Qajar Persia, circa 1840.

This sale will offer a group of ten distinguished paintings by Jacques Majorelle: several market scenes, a testimony of the artist journeys in Africa, revealing a taste for acid shades contrasting with dark skin tones.
The sale will also include a group of modern turkish paintings from French Private collections acquired directly from the artists in the 60's and 70's.
