Sightseeing Trip: Solo Exhibition by Dresden Artist Eberhard Havekost
Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai
February 19 To  April 1, 2012

The Sightseeing Trip, a solo exhibition by Dresden Artist Eberhard Havekost is being exhibited by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections) on the occasion of the year Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities, in association with the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum Mumbai, as well as the Kochi-Muziris Biennale Foundation and the Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi. The exhibition includes the thematically concentrated selection of 19 paintings alongwith the complete set of 113 offset prints which Eberhard Havekost created on the basis of his own photographs between 2001 and 2011.

The exhibition gives the insights about the artist‘s analytical perspective on the transformation of urban societies. For Eberhard Havekost, the city is a central place of thriving habitation and experience. He perceives its complex structures as details taken from the whole: facades, streets, cars, shop windows, passers-by.

Oil paintings as well as graphic works from the last ten years are featured in the show.

Time Past is Present

Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata
March 2 to March 20, 2012

In myriad ways, Sudip Roy’s Time Past is Present straddles mediums, moods and materials. The vast range of techniques and the idea of perception worked on perfecting his representation of figures and faces, makes this show by Sudip Roy one to savour long after. The show includes washes, watercolours, sketches, charcoals, oils, semi- abstracts and abstracts. If his oils heighten the intensity of his paintings-his watercolours stretch the perspective, creating faces into the foreground and pushing other figures far behind. He makes very effective use of white, which empties space, and shadows too, because it surges forward. Some of the paintings here make explicit the beauty implicit in the human body, showing that its form was inherently beautiful suggesting that it was ideal despite itself.

Green Below, Blue Above: Solo Exhibition of Paintings by Sumana Ghosh
Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata
March 7 to March 13, 2012

Green Below, Blue Above
, the sixth solo exhibition of Sumana Ghosh will display 20 paintings including acrylic on canvas, tempera on paper and canvas pasted with Nepali hand- made paper. She has tried to project her dream, dream for what is beyond her existential limit. Out of this duality her works often slip toward fantasy. Reality and fantasy merge together in her works. Her ‘being’ as a woman has played a significant role in her works. The inhibitions, the impediments that a woman has to confront constantly in the process of life creates a pathetic sensibility, creates a melancholic tune in her consciousness.

Limning Heterotopias: Solo Show G.R. Iranna

Gallery Espace, New Delhi
March 10 to April 15, 2012

The exhibition features new works of Iranna, including paintings on canvas, watercolours and sculptures. These works are an extension of the artist's ongoing visual meditations on the ephemeral, illusory, and indeterminate significance of human existence, as well as his enduring preoccupation with existential questions about the "collective solitude" of faith and its frailty, the vicissitudes of spiritual journeys, and the fraught location of belief in quotidian life. Buddhist monks figure prominently in these works, as do the wooden "spiritual journey" sandals of religious pilgrims, monks and their bowls for begging alms.

Home: Solo Exhibition of Ritendra Roy
Gallerie Ganesha, New Delhi
March 23 to April 23, 2012

‘Home’ is a concept of order and identity. To be at home is to belong and be oriented in space within a huge void of public landscape consisting of different elements that the person has or had an emotional attachment. The various facets of these elements have acted as a referential framework for his paintings. Ritendra has achieved a unique visual equilibrium through his hard- won simplicity of the usage of specific gravities of colour. He has successfully brought the different paradigms of the 'interior' and 'exterior' landscape into a visual dialogue, creating various possible 'readings' with regard to the 'new' spaces which give an account of the re-interpretation of his live-in environment.
