Creative India Series 2: The Punjab & Delhi Auction, New Delhi
January 27
Osian’s had put up for sale Pahari School Miniatures and Modern & Contemporary Indian art on January 27, 2012. 126 art pieces contributed by 62 artists from Delhi and Punjab were offered for sale out of which 81 items were sold for Rs. 141,402,000. The highest price went to lot 62, untitled work by Tyeb Mehta which was sold for Rs. 22,800,000. The next high price went to lot 63, untitled work by Ramkumar which was sold for Rs. 14,400,000.

Miniatures and Paintings, Mumbai

Pundole’s had offered 48 lots of paintings and Indian antique miniatures for sale out of which 44 lots were sold for a total of Rs. 12,76,90,000. The highest price went to lot 26, Mithuna, oil on canvas by MF Husain, which was sold for Rs. 2,50,00,000. The next high price went to lot 41, another MF Husain’s work, Madonna and Child, acrylic on canvas. It was sold for Rs. 80,00,000.

Christie’s had offered 51 lots for auction which were sold for a total of £97,814,150.The highest price went to lot 23, Henry Moore (1898-1986), Reclining Figure: Festival which was sold for £19,081,250bronze with dark brown patina. Length: 96¼ in. (244.5 cm.), conceived in 1951 and cast in an edition of five plus one artist's proof. The next high price went to lot 19, Juan Gris (1887-1927) Le livre which was sold for £10,345,250.
Christie's Interiors, New York, Rockefeller Plaza

Christie's Interiors offered 919 lots for auction which were sold for $1,724,150. The highest price went to lot 643 a group of two modernist chairs, second half 20th century, comprising: a Scandinavian grey wool and leather upholstered club chair and an Eames molded walnut 'LCM' chair, produced by Herman Miller, of recent manufacture, 40½in. (103cm.) high, 34½in. (87.5cm.) wide, 25in. (63.5cm.) deep, the larger, the club chair (2). It was sold for $80, 500. The next high price went to lot 310, a Russian cloisonne enamel silver mounted icon, the mount marked Kiev, late 19th/20th century, maker's mark cyrillic 'EK', which was sold for $22,500.

Sotheby’s offered 339 lots for sale. The highest price went to lot 163, 18 karat white gold and fancy orangy pink diamond pendant- necklace, which was sold for $632,500. The next high price went to a platinum and diamond ring which was sold for $446,500.

Inaugural Auction of Impressionist and Modern Art

Saffronart started its online auction of Inaugural Auction of Impressionist and Modern Art. Only Out of 73 lots put for sale 32 lots were sold for a total of $ 1,200,400. The highest price went to lot 31 Vincent van Gogh’s L’Allee aux deux promeneurs (Lane with Two Figures), which was sold for $697,000. The next high price went to lot 14, Bernard Buffet’s Cerises dans un compotier (Cherries in a Fruitbowl), which was sold for $ 79,200.

Christie's Interiors will offer 520 lots for sale including furniture and lighting, paintings, prints and watercolour, rugs and carpets, sculptures and other items. The highest price is expected to be lot 142, a French historical tapestry, Aubusson, second half 17th century, after Charles Lebrun. Worked in wools and silks, from the series of 'Alexander the Great', depicting Darius's family in the battlefield tent of Alexander, with his mother at the feet of the conqueror, sized 92 x 135 inches (235 x 344 cm.), with an estimated price of £15,000 - £20,000. The next high priced item is lot 74, two Flemish game-park tapestry panels from the same series, second half 16th century. It‘s estimated price is £10,000 - £15,000.
South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art, 20 Rockefellar Plaza, New York

Lots from 501- 624 will be put up for sale in the South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art auction at Christie’s. The property is from various collections namely Garden Silk Mills Ltd (from Prafful A Shah’s collection), Dimock Family Collection, The Keehn Family Collection, The Collection of Jeffrey Kwit, The Collection of Christina McGuinness, The Collection of Mr. Marrill Miller and The Collection of Late Calvert Norland. Highlights include works by M F Husain, S H Raza, F N Souza, Atul Dodiya, A Padamsee, Paritosh Sen, Jamini Roy, Rashid Rana and others. The highest price is expected to be lot 529 , Tyeb Mehta, Untilted (Figures With Bull Head) with an estimated price of $1,500,000- $2,000,000.

Sotheby’s will put up for auction Indian and Southeast Asian works of art. The highest price is expected to be a magnificent group of Shiva and Parvati: Somaskandamurti which is astimated to be $600,000 – $800,000. The next high priced item is Vishnu with an estimated price of $200,000 – $300,000.
Bonham’s
Islamic and Indian Art, London, New Bond Street

A range of miniatures from the Rajput schools from Indian and Islamic art will be displayed at Bonham’s. The items come from the collection of the Mughal scholar Dr Linda York Leach (1942 - 2006). Leading pieces from the collection include an image of two early 19th century Jodhpur rulers which is estimate for £3,000 to £4,000, a portrait of a late 18th century Mandi prince with a falcon with an estimate of £1,200 to £1,500, and an 18th century Rajasthan work depicting a father teaching his son falconry, which is estimated at £3,000 to £4,000. The sale will also include a large, early 19th century, north Indian topographical map of a hill top fort which is expected to sell for £8,000 to £12,000. A number of ivories, bronzes and textiles from Leach’s extensive collection will also feature
